Attendance Policies for Students
Regular attendance by all students is very important. In many cases, inconsistent attendance is a major reason for poor schoolwork. However, some situations may cause a student to miss school. Parents or guardians are asked to notify the school by phone or email as early as possible on the day a student is absent. Also, a note from the parent or guardian explaining the reason for the absence is required when the student returns to school. The school will accept emails explaining the absence instead of a handwritten note.
New Policy Alert:
Policy JEDC is required by law to allow students up to 3 excused absences each school year for religious expression days. Per law, we have created a non-exhaustive list of major religious holidays or festivals for which a religious expression day will not be denied. This list of holidays is below this announcement, and a copy for download is posted at the bottom of this web page. The policy and list will also be communicated to parents and guardians at the beginning of each school year.

The attendance email addresses for each school can be found by clicking here.
The district is required to attempt to notify the parent or guardian of a student who is absent without a legitimate excuse from school. This notification will be made via the ParentSquare notification system. To ensure you are receiving such notifications, please accept the email invitation that was sent to you in July. If, after checking your Spam or Junk folders, you do not have an invitation, please check your contact information in FinalForms and make any changes there. Your changes will sync with ParentSquare overnight, so please check again for an invitation. Other ways to access your account can be found here.
Details on what is considered an excused absence and acceptable documentation can be found in the Student Absences and Excuses (Policy JED) document at the bottom of this page.
A student with thirty (30) or more consecutive unexcused school hours, or forty-two (42) or more unexcused school hours in one month, or seventy-two (72) or more unexcused school hours in one school year, is considered a habitual truant under section 2151.011 of the Ohio Revised Code.
Details on truancy and its consequences can be found in the Truancy (Policy JEDA) document below.
